NVIDIA reportedly faces antitrust scrutiny in France

NVIDIA Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA, ETR:NVD) is set to face charges from the French antitrust regulator for alleged anti-competitive practices, following dawn raids in the graphics cards sector last September, according to a Reuters exclusive.

These raids were part of a broader investigation into cloud computing. Nvidia, the leading manufacturer of chips for AI and computer graphics, has experienced increased demand for its products following the release of ChatGPT, prompting regulatory scrutiny.

The French authority, which sometimes publicises its objections, and Nvidia both declined to comment on the Reuters story.

Nvidia previously disclosed that EU, Chinese, and French regulators had requested information about its graphic cards.

The European Commission is not expected to extend its review, given the French investigation, the report said.

Recently the French watchdog highlighted concerns over potential abuses by chip providers and the industry's reliance on Nvidia's CUDA programming software, the sole system fully compatible with essential GPUs for accelerated computing.
