Eden Research CEO says new regulatory approval expands Spanish market for key biofungicide

Eden Research CEO says new regulatory approval expands Spanish market for key biofungicide

Eden Research PLC (AIM:EDEN, OTCQB:EDNSF) CEO Sean Smith talked with Proactive about Spain's recent approval of Mevalone (known as Araw in Spain) for a wider range of crops and fungal pathogens. This significant regulatory authorisation is a pivotal development for the company, enabling it to expand its addressable market.

"It's fantastic news," Smith said. "This is long-awaited news, and as folks that follow our story will recognise, regulatory authorisation is all important to us in terms of growing our addressable market. So, it's most welcome news."

Smith explained that when Mevalone was launched in Spain in 2016, it was initially targeted at one fungal pathogen on grapes. Over the years, Eden Research has worked to expand its market to include a variety of horticultural crops such as berries, lettuce, cucumbers, squash, and tomatoes. The recent approval now covers additional fungal diseases, including powdery mildew and rust, which affect multiple crops.

"We're getting very close to covering almost everything," Smith mentioned. He highlighted the inclusion of almonds, which are a significant crop in Spain, representing a substantial opportunity for Eden Research. The CEO also noted that this regulatory success in Spain could pave the way for further approvals in other countries, contributing to the company’s growth.

Financial benefits from these developments are expected to start in earnest in 2025, with an anticipated 20-25% year-over-year growth from this label extension. Smith expressed optimism about the future growth fueled by these regulatory advancements.
