Copper Lake Resources Ltd (TSX-V:CPL, OTC:WTCZF) is exploring in northwestern Ontario for a range of critical minerals including gold, silver, copper, and nickel.
It has two advanced projects and an experienced management team with a proven track record in mineral exploration, discovery, development and finance, Proactive Investors analyst Ryan Long highlighted in a recent research report.
The company holds a majority interest in the Marshall Lake zinc-silver-gold project, located 120 kilometers north of Geraldton, Ontario.
It also has an almost 70% joint venture interest in the Norton Lake nickel-copper-cobalt-palladium-platinum project located about 100 kilometers north of Marshall Lake in the Miminiska-Fort Hope Greenstone Belt in the southern Ring of Fire area.
The Marshall Lake project
Copper Lake believes that the Marshall Lake project has the potential to be a Noranda-style Volcanogenic Massive Sulfide (VMS) camp with multiple deposits.
Within the project, there are over 200 known base metal and precious metal occurrences at the surface. The largest of these is the Billiton Deposit, which hosts a non-compliant historic resource estimate of 2.2 million tons at an average grade of 1.3% copper, 4.3% zinc and 2.5 ounces per ton of silver.
“The project is littered with occurrences of base metals and precious metals,” Long said in an interview about the research report.
Exploration at the project to date has focused on the Billiton Zone, which continues to indicate the presence of a large hydrothermal system that could contain a significant VMS deposit.
Additionally, to the west of the Billiton Zone are areas of copper-zinc-silver mineralization at the Teck Hill, Gazooma, Gazooma North-RM and Jewel Box targets.
Drilling at these areas to date has been shallow, within 150 meters of the surface, with Copper Lake planning additional surveys to identify deeper conductors and drill targets.
The company plans to carry out large-loop electromagnetic (LLEM) surveys to at least 500 meters in these areas this summer to generate targets for drilling in the late summer.
A major advantage of these targets is that they are on higher ground and therefore accessible year-round, Long highlighted in the research report.
Copper Lake CEO Terry MacDonald said the company’s goal over the past five years or so has been to gain a better understanding of the project, down to 500 meters to 1,000 meters in some areas.
Some areas have “very good” historical drilling results at shallow depths, such as 2% copper over 27 meters, MacDonald said.
‘These are good numbers to work with and we want to do some deeper geophysics to identify deeper targets and develop some continuity of these high-grade drilling results,” he told Proactive in a recent interview.
“We are hopeful that the summer exploration will dig up something interesting.”
The Norton Lake project
For the Norton Lake project, Copper Lake in October 2023 filed an updated NI 43-101-compliant mineral resource estimate for open pit and underground measured and indicated resources of about 1.8 million tons at an average grade of 0.72% nickel, 0.69% copper, 339 parts per million cobalt, 0.52% grams per ton of palladium, 0.17 grams per ton of platinum, containing 28.3 million pounds of nickel and 27.3 million pounds of copper.
As highlighted by Long in the research report, the resource base comes from two lenses, 225 meters to 300 meters long than extend to a defined depth of 400 meters but remain open below this.
On top of this depth potential, Copper Lake believes that based on regional geophysics there are more than 11 kilometers of strike length with the potential for additional magmatic polymetallic mineralization.
