EDM Resources Inc (TSX-V:EDM, OTC:SWNLF) announced that it has completed the fourth and final season of environmental DNA sampling for Atlantic salmon at its Scotia Mine, located near Halifax in Nova Scotia.
The company said that consistent with all previous sampling, no Atlantic salmon DNA was detected at the mine area.
The company has completed the four required seasons of environmental DNA sampling to provide evidence on the presence or absence of Atlantic salmon in the watercourses near the mine in connection with the timing of freshwater life history stages.
Sixteen locations were evaluated, including reference areas to validate methodology and results.
The program is a key requirement for the “fish and fish habitat” component of the Fisheries Act Authorization (FAA) application to be submitted by the Scotia Mine to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans later this year.
The company said it continues to work with Strum Consulting (McCallum Environment) and GHD to complete expanded surface and groundwater studies and a fish habitat offsetting plan in support of its FAA application and its plan to restart activities at the mine.
"We continue to make significant progress on satisfying the FAA application requirements, through our environmental studies and offsetting restoration work," EDM Resources CEO Mark Haywood commented.
