Esquires Coffee owner thanks new stores for sales surge

The owner of Esquires Coffee has showcased the benefit of opening new sites in the UK and Ireland after trading rallied in the past ten weeks.

Cooks Coffee Company Ltd (AQSE:COOK), the café group, said Esquires' overall store sales increased by 23.7% during the period, a trading update revealed.

Over the past seven weeks, sales in Britain and Ireland have topped £600,000 every week, marking one of the best performances in its history.

Esquires' store sales rose by 30.1%, with like-for-like sales up by 5.5%.

Part of this growth was helped by five new store openings over the last year in locations such as Colliers Wood, Newport, Sudbury, Pinner, and Ruislip.

These new openings contributed 34.6% of total sales during the period.

In Ireland, Esquires' store sales grew by 11.7%, with like-for-like sales increasing by 8.0%, while new stores contributed 17.1% of the total sales for the period.

Aiden Keegan, Cooks Coffee’s chief executive, said: "We are delighted with the strong start to the year.

“The new stores have performed very well, and we are excited about the continued opportunities for growth in both markets."

Shares in Cooks Coffee are listed in New Zealand and on the AQUIS Exchange and have risen by more than 50% in 2024.
