Jaguar Land Rover is to pay for police support after a spate of thefts left its Range Rovers owners complaining the cars were too easy to steal.
Tata-owned JLR said it will spend one million pounds on additional resources for the police in areas with high theft levels.
One of the UK's most desired luxury cars, Range Rovers cost from £104,000 while the Sport variant is slightly cheaper at £75,000 but drivers say insurance premiums have gone through the roof due to incidences of theft.
Earlier this year, JLR’s chief executive Adrian Mardell dismissed claims that the Range Rover was Britain’s “most stolen vehicle”, but last year set up its own insurance company to help owners struggling to find affordable cover.
JLR said the new funds will provide police with additional resources to respond to vehicle thefts, pay for a new intelligence unit and establish a more visible presence at the ports from where stolen cars are shipped.
At the same time, it said it was working on ways to make the cars harder to steal.
