NetScientific: EMV Capital leads £3.4m investment in SatCom leader Sofant

EMV Capital (EMVC), the venture capital arm of stock market-listed NetScientific PLC (AIM:NSCI), led a £3.4 million investment into Sofant Technologies.

Sofant, known for its cutting-edge phased-array antenna platforms, will use the new investment to deliver satellite communication (SatCom) terminals to key clients in the aerospace, defence, security, and civilian sectors.

The follow-on round included contributions from EMV Capital's private EIS investors, as well as Kelvin Capital and Scottish Enterprise.

With this financial backing, Sofant aims to execute its go-to-market strategy and provide advanced SatCom terminals to operators, enhancing network capabilities for both commercial and government applications.

Dr Ilian Iliev, EMV's managing director and Sofant board member, said: "We are pleased with the success of this fundraising for Sofant that comes at a critical value inflexion point for the company."

He highlighted EMV Capital's capital-light investment strategy, which collaborates with management and co-investors to create optimal funding structures. "It is pleasing to see a UK-born semiconductor company make an impact on the global stage as a key enabler for future wireless networks," he added.

David Wither, CEO of Sofant, emphasised the growing interest from customers and new investors in the tech company's target markets.

"Sofant will use the proceeds from this investment round to deliver fully integrated SatCom terminals to our lead customers for network trials before the end of this year," he added.

Sofant's proprietary RF MEMS technology addresses significant challenges in size, weight, and power consumption for future wireless communication systems.

This innovation positions the company to play a pivotal role in expanding service offerings in the rapidly growing SatCom market.

The company's partnerships with Inmarsat (now part of Viasat), the European Space Agency, and a global defence company underscore its progress in product commercialization.

The investment marks a significant step for Sofant Technologies, as it prepares to revolutionize the SatCom industry with its advanced wireless technology solutions.
