ETC Group's Bradley Duke says 'whales' are buoying Bitcoin

ETC Group's Bradley Duke says 'whales' are buoying Bitcoin

ETC Group founder and chief strategy officer Bradley Duke discusses Bitcoin's move back above $70,000 with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion. He attributed this surge to the activity of "whales" – entities holding more than 1,000 bitcoins – who have been moving their holdings off exchanges into cold storage, signalling a long-term investment strategy and contributing to Bitcoin's scarcity.

Duke also addressed the approval process for the first spot Ether ETF by the US Securities Exchange Commission (SEC). Although final approvals are pending, the initial in-principle approvals have positively impacted Ethereum's market price. This move by the SEC is viewed as a broader endorsement of cryptocurrencies, marking a significant step beyond their previous Bitcoin-only focus.

Furthermore, Duke compared the US and EU crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs). He noted that while US Bitcoin ETFs are similar to European products, European ETPs offer additional benefits, such as incorporating staking rewards from Ethereum into the total return, a feature not yet permitted by the SEC for US ETFs.
