NanoViricides (NYSE-A:NNVC) has unveiled additional positive data for its lead clinical-stage broad-spectrum antiviral agent NV-387, a desirable blood concentration profile that it believes could enable infrequent dosing.
The company said when administered intravenously in a non-human primate animal model, NV-387 demonstrated a “highly desirable blood concentration profile.”
It resulted in a “relatively flat plateau of blood concentration of the drug with very slow decline over a 24 hour period,” NanoViricides said.
The maximum concentration and the plateau concentration increased in a dose-dependent manner, as expected by the company.
NanoViricides (NYSE-A:NNVC) believes this sustained drug level in the bloodstream for a relatively long period of time enables infrequent dosing, noting that the drug’s observed pharmacokinetic profile supports a once-daily or less frequent dosing regimen.
It said it has already developed an injectable formula of NV-387, which it believes would be useful for moderate to severe illness due to the sustained blood profile that requires infrequent dosing.
It would be suitable for severely ill hospitalized patients, it added.
