Grease Monkey Games (GMG), a subsidiary of Animoca Brands Corporation Ltd, has released the 0.9 update for its premier drift racing simulator, Torque Drift 2 (TD2).
Available for PC on the Epic Games Store, this update introduces a new in-game virtual currency, freestyle mode, multiplayer leaderboards, an in-game shop and a collection of new cars featuring authentic intellectual property.
Join the Motorverse
Additionally, TD2 has officially joined Motorverse, a global digital ecosystem backed by Animoca Brands.
Building on the success of previous hits, Torque Burnout and Torque Drift, which together have been downloaded 45 million times worldwide, GMG focuses on expanding Torque Drift 2.
The update includes iconic new cars such as the Nissan R33, Toyota Chaser JZX100, Toyota MK4 Supra, Honda S2000 and Honda Civic Type R.
These additions join previously included models like the Nissan R34, Nissan R35, Mazda RX7, Mazda MX5 and Nissan 370z.
Version 0.9 marks the most significant update for Torque Drift 2, introducing the new 'Freestyle' game mode.
This mode allows players to test their drifting skills by navigating through as many clipping points as possible before time runs out.
With Beginner, Intermediate and Pro circuits, players of all skill levels can enjoy the challenge.
The update also adds multiplayer leaderboards, enabling players to compete globally for the highest scores.
Opportunities to top the charts
Leaderboards reset weekly, offering frequent opportunities to top the charts and earn rewards, including the REVV token, Motorverse’s central utility and governance token, and a new in-game currency called Torque Funds (ToFu).
Players can use these currencies to buy new standard or limited-edition cars and parts in the revamped in-game shop.
“With the addition of REVV and further integration into Motorverse, Torque Drift 2 continues our shared mission to create the most expansive, immersive and interconnected ecosystem for all motorsports fans across the world,” said Will Griffiths, vice president of Commercial Strategy at Animoca Brands and general manager of Motorverse.
“Thanks to digital property rights, true interoperability and a healthy economy, Motorverse invites players to join a thriving community and enjoy unique experiences, and Torque Drift 2 is a perfect example of this vision.”
“Support for REVV is one of the game’s largest updates so far, and we are delighted to offer motorsports fans these exciting new features and access to Motorverse’s unified economy,” said Grease Monkey Games CEO Arran Potter.
“In line with the overarching vision of a fully interoperable racing-centric ecosystem, Torque Drift 2 players can now purchase or earn REVV tokens directly within the game to seamlessly utilise them across all Motorverse titles.”
