Getir owes Tottenham Hotspur millions as it quits UK

Getir, the grocery delivery app which said it was quitting the UK, has been left indebted to Tottenham Hotspur as its sponsorship deal ended this season.

Despite its three-year training kit sponsorship deal with Spurs coming to a close on Sunday at the culmination of the season, the Turkey-based delivery service is believed to still owe £5 million to the club.

Getir has been attempting to access a new set of funding from top investors Mubadala and G Squared to help it undergo exits from the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.

It is unconfirmed whether the company has the required funds to settle the debt with Tottenham Hotspur.

Thousands of jobs have been axed by the company as earnings begin to struggle, with the reduction in operations indicating a significant shift back from the £10 billion valuation it once earned.

In the UK, 1,500 jobs are believed to be at risk because of the changes.

Gorillas, Getir’s sister brand. is also shuttering its UK operations, as the firm retrenches back to its home market of Turkey.
