Intrepid Metals starting to unlock new copper riches in Arizona thanks to tireless consolidation efforts

Intrepid Metals Corp (TSX-V:INTR, OTCQB:IMTCF) is starting to attract interest within the junior mining sector by successfully consolidating fragmented land holdings in Arizona, a state known for its abundant natural resources.

The company’s stock price has climbed by 50% over the past several weeks thanks in part to its strategic positioning within the tier one mining jurisdiction of southeastern Arizona and a handful of eye-popping drill results.

The area has been of interest to companies of all sizes for many years, but the fragmented land ownership, consisting of patent mining claims and private surface rights held by families for over a century, posed a significant challenge. Successfully piecing together this property was crucial to unlocking a district-scale opportunity, with a history of high-grade, shallow mining dating back to the late 1800s.

Despite the complexities and the need to build relationships with local stakeholders over time, Intrepid Metals ultimately succeeded in consolidating a significant land package, paving the way for future development and value creation.

The name of the project holds particular meaning to Intrepid CEO Ken Brophy.

“We called it Corral Copper because we spent two years really trying to ‘corral’ a lot of the fragmented land ownership,” Brophy told Proactive.

Brophy brings over 25 years of expertise in the natural resources sector, specializing in advancing and de-risking development-stage projects. He has been at the helm of Intrepid since early 2022 and has worked with Intrepid’s founder and chairman Mark Morabito between 2006 and 2012 on other ventures.

Morabito has played pivotal roles in various successful resource development companies, such as Excelsior Mining and its fully-permitted Gunnison Copper Project located in the same county as two of Intrepid’s core projects. Morabito is also the founder of King & Bay, a merchant bank and public company services provider. Throughout his career, Morabito has excelled in identifying, funding, and managing business opportunities, both within and beyond the mining sector. As well, the company has several technical advisors with experience in resource expansion and mine building all over the globe.

In both a literal and metaphorical sense, the historical significance of the area informs the company’s approach to exploration in Arizona. By piecing together this property, Intrepid Metals aims to unlock a district-scale opportunity, Brophy noted. After nearly two years of concerted effort, the company successfully secured the necessary land parcels, laying the foundation for exploration and development activities and paving the way for meaningful progress in advancing Corral.

That is starting to pay off in the form of drill results. Following the release of promising drill results in early May, Intrepid’s shares jumped after the initial 12 diamond drill holes revealed substantial mineralization, highlighted by 105.2 meters of 1.17% copper and 48.9 meters of 2.24% copper near the surface. What’s more, these results unveiled a three-kilometer trend of near-surface oxide copper-gold-silver-zinc mineralization across the Holliday, Earp, and Ringo zones, marking a significant milestone for the Cochise County-based property.

"Our ongoing drill program is fairly straightforward,” Brophy explained. “We aim to confirm much of the historical drilling conducted within this three-kilometer trend. We have ample historical data indicating significant concentrations of high-grade copper, gold, silver, and zinc within this area."

There is no rush to put out a resource estimate on the property just yet. From a resource perspective, rushing to establish a resource estimate might not be advantageous for Intrepid, Brophy notes. There is already ample room for expansion, and numerous new target areas that warrant further evaluation. Additional data sources, such as mapping, historical drill data, drill logs, and geophysics, could provide valuable insights.

The company’s primary objective is to validate the historical data, which they have achieved with the initial results. Now, the focus is on expanding exploration efforts along the three-kilometer trend, which is situated on private lands comprising 1,800 acres of patented mining claims. This area, which represents less than 15% of the total property, is the main focus of current drilling activities.

“I often use the analogy that we're just scratching the surface because that's precisely what we're doing,” Brophy said.

“All of our drilling efforts to date have been relatively shallow compared to many other projects across Arizona. We're encountering mineralization right from the surface down to 200 meters in some of our holes, with few exceeding 300 meters.”

Intrepid’s perseverance in bringing together fragmented landholdings into one viable project is already starting to pay off.

“I firmly believe that the industry as a whole must collaborate to change the perception that exploration and mining are inherently negative,” Brophy explained. “It’s important that we all work together and approach exploration and development responsibly.”
