Taylor Swift tour to generate £1 billion for UK economy

Taylor Swift coming to the UK will see consumers spend an additional £1 billion as over a million of her fans prepare to attend her Eras Tour, new research found.

Swift is currently performing her 22-month-long world tour in which she will do 152 shows across five continents.

In June and August, the pop megastar will perform on 15 separate dates in locations such as Wembley, Anfield and the BT Murrayfield Stadium.

Each attending fan is expected to spend £848 in tickets, travel, accommodation and outfits in preparation for seeing the Pennsylvanian artist, data from Barclays found.

It isn’t the first time ‘Swiftonomics’ – the economic influence of the singer – has impacted the UK either.

Last year, when tickets for Swift’s tour went on sale seller websites crashed and hotels near venues sold out within hours.

On average a ticket was found to have cost £206, while an additional 14% of fans bought over £400 worth of perks such as VIP packages or merchandise, Barclays noted.

Travel costs averaged around £111 as ‘Swifites’ come from all areas of the UK to cities such as London, Liverpool and Edinburgh.

Fans are predicted to spend an extra £121 on accommodation, the UK lender revealed.

Eating out, dressing up and attending Swift-themed afterparties is expected to lift the UK’s spending by an extra £997 million.
