Indeed axes thousand workers as job market cools

Indeed, the online jobs platform, could see an extra thousand sign-ups in the coming months after it announced it would be cutting around 8% of its global workforce amid a cooling labour market.

Some 1,000 staff will be axed in the group’s second workforce reduction in as many years, with US jobs expected to be the most at risk.

Cuts are said to be focused on its research and development division and the teams which help bring products to customers.

In a message to employees on Monday, chief executive Chris Hyams said the group would also reduce layers of management and eliminate most of its sales and customer support roles at its sites in Foster City, California.

Last year, the jobs platform cut 2,200 jobs in a bid to keep margins healthy amid a slowdown in sales.

This time around, the cuts are expected to speed up decision-making and trim some of the organisational fat.

Hyams said: “We are not yet set up for sustainable growth… Our organization is still too complex, we still have significant duplication of effort and too many organizational layers that slow down decision-making.”
