OpenAI boss Sam Altman reckons an update to his company’s ChatGPT large-language model, expected to be announced today, is a thing of magic.
The artificial intelligence giant is expected to stream live at 10am Pacific Time (6pm BST) on OpenAI.com to demo “some ChatGPT and GPT-4 updates”.
In a Friday Tweet on social media platform X, Altman ruled out a few popular rumours.
“not gpt-5, not a search engine, but we’ve been hard at work on some new stuff we think people will love! feels like magic to me,” he said.
Altman’s comments contradict recent reports that OpenAI is set to launch a search engine that would put it in direct competition with search hegemon Google.
But with that and the launch of ChatGPT 5 ruled out, what could the big announcement be?
A popular prediction shared over social media, including by Nvidia research manager Jim Fan, is a real-time voice assistant.
Google killer? Probably not. Alexa killer? Possibly!
