In a recent sweep of the UK housebuilding sector, Deutsche Bank has initiated coverage with a favourable outlook, singling out Bellway PLC (LSE:BWY) as the company with the most promising upside potential.
Deutsche highlighted its robust strategy and resilient performance despite recent market challenges, setting a target price of 3,013p compared with the current price of 2,736p (up 2.6%).
Bellway is well-prepared for recovery, thanks to its substantial landbank investments aiding sales rates and site openings amidst tough planning conditions, the German investment bank said.
Despite a challenging fiscal year 2023, Bellway is poised for growth in coming years with an expected notable increase in its order book, suggesting a strong comeback in fiscal years 2025 and 2026.
The research also covered other major players in the sector, with Deutsche issuing 'buy' ratings for Berkeley Group Holdings PLC (LSE:BKG), Vistry Group PLC (LSE:VTY) and Crest Nicholson Holdings PLC.
Each of these companies brings a unique strength to the table, from Berkeley’s dominance in the London residential market to Vistry’s effective partnerships model and Crest Nicholson’s focus on cost reduction and land-buying strategies.
However, Deutsche holds a more cautious view on Barratt Developments PLC (LSE:BDEV), Taylor Wimpey PLC (LSE:TW.) and Persimmon PLC (LSE:PSN), assigning them 'hold' ratings.
These firms face various challenges from market conditions to internal strategy shifts, which may affect their short-term performance.
Particularly, Barratt's recent move to acquire Redrow PLC (LSE:RDW), also rated 'hold', could diversify its brand portfolio but also carries substantial risks, highlighted by ongoing scrutiny from competition authorities, the bank said in a note.
