EDM Resources closer to Scotia mine restart after latest environmental test

EDM Resources Inc (TSX-V:EDM, OTC:SWNLF) told investors that no Atlantic salmon DNA was detected during the third season of testing at the Scotia Mine site in Nova Scotia.

The company described the successful completion of testing as a significant milestone as it progresses toward restarting the mine.

"We anticipate the remaining one season of testing to also yield similar results which would be favourable for the restart of the Scotia Mine,” chief executive Mark Haywood said in a statement.

EDM’s environmental consultants, Strum Consulting, meanwhile, added: "Three rounds of sampling have now been completed resulting in no confirmed detections of Atlantic Salmon near the mine site."

Strum was commissioned to conduct a four-season study to show that its mining activities will not impact the Inner Bay of Fundy (IBOF) Atlantic Salmon habitat.

It is expected that the final round of testing will be completed in May 2024.

The company noted that it has also conducted reconnaissance work to identify potential stream and river restoration sites to satisfy the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) requirements.
