Guild Esports PLC (LSE:GILD, OTCQB:GULDF), the video-game-centric media group, confirmed it will be looking to expand its competitive presence ahead of one of the largest-scale tournaments in the industry.
The Esports World Cup (EWC) takes place in July and August this year and hosts a range of contests for different video games such as Fortnite, EA FC, Rocket League and Street Fighter.
In preparation for the event, Guild Esports has signed up for the Esports World Cup Program, the scheme created by the EWC Foundation aimed at helping teams through additional funding and support.
Taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the London-listed company will join e-sports rivals such as Cloud 9 and Team Liquid to compete for up to US$60 million, US$40 million of which goes to the players while US$20 million goes to the teams.
Guild Esports sees the upcoming championship as an important milestone in expanding into the Middle East and Africa region, which is the world’s fastest-growing gaming market.
Jasmine Skee, CEO of Guild Esports, said: "The Esports World Cup will be the pinnacle of professional gaming, with the biggest prize pool in history and attended by the best and brightest of the esports world.
“We're delighted to be competing alongside titans of the esports world and talented newcomers, in an experience we are sure will delight our fans.”
