easyJet chaos as customers receive false cancellation emails

easyJet PLC (LSE:EZJ) passengers were left confused and disrupted over the weekend after the airline wrongly sent out emails and texts saying flights had been cancelled.

On Sunday, holidaymakers were sent messages saying flights scheduled to leave on April 30 had been cancelled, leaving some purchasing new tickets and cancelling journeys.

Customers who received the message were scheduled to fly from locations such as Belfast, London Stansted, Luton, Geneva and Edinburgh.

Passengers were told the cancellation was “due to the evolving events in Israel”.

Hey @easyJet, what absolut bulls@@t is this? This morning you've cancelled my flight from Edinburgh to Bristol on Tuesday "Due to the evolving events in Israel"? How have these events suddenly evolved such that my flight from one end of UK to the other is affected?? pic.twitter.com/WKF3tFL05H

An hour later, the airline withdrew the alert and said a technical error had been made – it was not confirmed whether a cyber-attack was to blame.

“EasyJet can confirm that unfortunately, on 28 April, some customers received an incorrect notification stating that their flight on 30 April was cancelled,” a spokesperson said.

"This was due to a technical error and all customers were quickly sent updated messages with a confirmation their flight is operating as normal. We would like to apologise for this and any inconvenience caused."
