Discovery Alaska secures key lease, targets gold exploration at Vinasale during March quarter

In what it regards as a transformative quarter, Discovery Alaska Ltd (ASX:DAF, OTC:DRVYF) executed a mining lease agreement (MLA) with Doyon, Limited, which the company says will significantly advance its gold exploration strategy.

The agreement grants Discovery Alaska exclusive rights to explore, develop and produce at the Vinasale Gold Project, about 310 kilometres northwest of Anchorage, Alaska.

Historical gold potential

Ranging across some 6,500 hectares, the Vinasale Project hosts historical resources that hold the promise of gold.

A previous resource estimate reported an indicated resource of 2.29 million tonnes at 1.84 g/t, amounting to 135,000 ounces of gold and an inferred resource of 22 million tonnes at 1.53 g/t, equating to 1.08 million ounces, using a cut-off grade of 1 g/t.

Following a decade of inactivity and a spike in the gold price, which now stands at around US$2,000 per ounce, Discovery Alaska is poised to leverage the favourable market conditions to reinvigorate exploration efforts.

The initial focus will be the Central Zone, where mineralisation extends over a 400-metre strike length, remaining open to expansion both southward and at depth.

Corporate position

Discovery Alaska maintains cash reserves of around A$556,000 as of March 31, with expenditures on exploration and evaluation amounting to around A$22,000 during the quarter – testament to a balance between prudent financial management and ambitious exploration initiatives.

The company now hopes not only to expand its resource base but also to solidify its position in the gold mining sector by capitalising on the robust market dynamics and its newly acquired exploration rights.
