A strike by Heathrow refuelling staff that threatened to cause severe disruption over the Bank Holiday weekend has been called off after the two sides reached an agreement over pay and conditions.
New terms offered by Aviation Fuel Services have been accepted, union Unite told reporters, adding it was "another victory for Unite in its campaign for members’ pay and conditions and workers at AFS"
Flight refuelling staff had threatened to take industrial action for 72 hours starting on the Saturday of the Bank Holiday, a mover that would have affected kerosene supplies for 35 carriers.
AFS, a joint venture owned by BP, Total and Q8 Aviation among others, wanted to impose different terms for staff recruited since January, according to Unite.
A separate walkout by Border Force officers at Heathrow began today. That strike is due to end on Thursday.
