International Graphite Ltd (ASX:IG6) MD and CEO Andrew Worland joins Proactive’s Jonathan Jackson to discuss a $3 million cap raise, the launch of a share purchase plan and a $6.5 million grant from the Western Australian Government, which enhances its plans for a graphite processing plant in Collie, WA. This latest grant, announced by WA Premier Roger Cook, brings the total funding received from the state's Collie Just Transition Program to $8.5 million. The announcement was made at the Collie Industry Transition Expo on April 20.
IG6 plans to establish Australia's first downstream graphite processing plant, aiming for annual production capacity of 4,000 tonnes of micronised graphite, which is essential for battery-grade graphite production. This initiative aligns with the WA Government's goal to position the state as a leader in clean energy production.
Premier Cook highlighted the project's significance for Collie, stating it would play a central role in the region's shift from coal dependency to becoming a hub for battery material production. This transition is expected to generate long-term industrial jobs and support economic diversification in Collie.
Worland said IG6 aimed to develop a domestic supply chain for advanced battery anode materials, initially using third-party graphite concentrates and eventually sourcing from its own Springdale Graphite Project, which is noted as Australia's second-largest graphite deposit, with significant reserves.
The company's operations are poised to support green manufacturing, minerals processing and clean energy initiatives, fitting well with the government's industry priorities. IG6 is also gearing up to sign a formal grant funding agreement in the near future.
