Ioneer Ltd (ASX:INR, OTC:GSCCF, NASDAQ:IONR) has welcomed progress with its ambitious Rhyolite Ridge Lithium-Boron Project, aimed at establishing a new lithium and boron mine in Esmeralda County, Nevada.
Following six years of work, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has released a draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), a pivotal element in advancing the project towards operational status.
Comprehensive overview
The EIS offers a comprehensive overview of the project's environmental considerations and operational plans.
The Rhyolite Ridge Project is strategically positioned some 40 air miles southwest of Tonopah and 13 air miles northeast of Dyer, nestled on the western slopes of the Silver Peak Range.
The site encompasses a proposed plan boundary of 7,166 acres, which includes 7,137 acres managed by the BLM and 29 acres of private land.
Key components of the project include the Operational Project Area (OPA) in a modest basin surrounded by rolling foothills off Fish Lake Valley's northeast side, as well as an access and infrastructure corridor along State Route (SR) 264.

Clear path forward
“This news sets a clear path forward to construction and brings us one step closer to making Rhyolite Ridge a reality. Rhyolite Ridge will be a significant, reliable and sustainable source of critical minerals for the United States,” said managing director Bernard Rowe.

Lithium is in the middle of a much-vaunted boom, being one of the key components for systems used to store energy for electric vehicles, utilities, computers and phones.
Boron has a variety of uses, including as a critical additive to glass and ceramics to strengthen and prevent cracking, as well as for fibreglass insulation, permanent magnetics used in electric motors, and as a fertilizer to increase crop yields.
Ioneer has scheduled public meetings to discuss the draft EIS and gather community feedback, and the project's draft EIS is available for public review on the BLM’s ePlanning website.
