Atome can be a leader in green fertiliser transition, suggests Canaccord

Atome has received a punchy share price target of 130p from analysts at Canaccord, which sees the firm as a potential leader in the transition towards electricity-based fertiliser production.

Aim-listed Atome focuses on transforming low-cost electricity into clean, cost-effective, high-value fertiliser using a unique production process that uses electricity, water, and air instead of natural gas, enhancing the cost efficiency, security of supply, and sustainability of its fertiliser products.

Canaccord notes that Atome's strategic approach involves the production of finished ammonia fertiliser, a product that is valuable, strategic, tradeable, and fungible.

“This positioning provides a distinct competitive advantage in terms of cost and sustainability compared to traditional fertiliser manufacturing methods.”

Atome is currently advancing its lead project, Villeta in Paraguay, with a final investment decision expected later this year.

This will be a crucial valuation event for Atome in 2024, with announcements regarding offtake agreements and debt arrangements for the Villeta project expected in the second quarter.

Canaccord’s valuation of Atome is based on a risked net asset value (NAV) approach, currently estimated at US $71 million, approximately 130p per share.

Atome's strategy of capitalising on isolated power generation opportunities by moving downstream in the production process is not only innovative but likely to set a precedent for other companies in the industry adds the broker, which has a speculative buy rating.

“The approach positions Atome to potentially lead in the global shift towards electricity-based fertiliser production, a significant pivot from the traditional reliance on natural gas.”

Shares are 61p currently.
