T Stamp Inc (NASDAQ:IDAI, EURONEXT:AIID) (dba Trust Stamp) has unveiled accelerated implementation options for financial institutions and enterprises grappling with the vulnerabilities posed by deep fake technology infiltrating voice recognition systems.
The company, which specializes in AI-powered trust and identity services deployed across various sectors worldwide, aims to address the escalating threat of voice-based fraud, fueled by rapid advancements in Generative AI technology.
Andrew Gowasack, Trust Stamp’s president, explained that the company has never offered voice-based authentication “because it appeared probable that it would be spoofed by fast-advancing AI technology.”
Gowasack noted that while OpenAI has said that they are not currently releasing their Voice Engine for public use, there are several alternative Generative AI engines available including open-source models.
“Our multimodal authentication tool using facial authentication with proof of life, paired with optional device authentication, can quickly be integrated into current authentication systems as an alternative for, or supplement to, voice-based systems and can also be initiated as a stand alone service for high-risk transactions within two to three days of subscription.”
Voice recognition technologies and telephone-based instructions have become integral components of operations for many financial institutions and enterprises. However, the proliferation of deep fake technology has facilitated the replication of individuals' voice patterns with alarming accuracy, enabling malicious actors to deceive automated systems or human personnel into executing unauthorized transactions.
Trust Stamp's solution leverages multimodal authentication, combining facial recognition with proof of life verification, alongside optional device authentication. Its approach can seamlessly integrate into existing authentication systems, providing an alternative or supplementary layer to voice-based systems.
Notably, the implementation process for high-risk transactions can commence within a mere two to three days of subscription.
Gowasack also highlighted the broader spectrum of risks associated with deep fake technology, extending beyond customer-financial institution interactions.
Such technology can be exploited within customer enterprises, leading to the transmission of seemingly legitimate instructions to financial institutions, Gowasack noted. These fraudulent communications within enterprises, often initiated through methods like spear phishing emails, can now also utilize deep fake voice and video technologies, including platforms like Zoom.
He also referenced the FBI's reports of increased incidents using virtual meeting platforms since 2019, citing a notable example in February of a finance worker in Hong Kong falling victim to "CEO Fraud" and transferring $25 million based on a deep fake video call impersonating the company's CFO.
Trust Stamp's technology offers a solution not only for financial institutions but also for enterprises to bolster authentication processes and prevent fraudulent instructions from reaching financial institutions.
