Ocean Power Technologies partners with Red Cat to enhance its maritime platforms

Ocean Power Technologies Inc (NYSE-A:OPTT) (OPT) announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership with drone technology firm Red Cat Holdings.

The company said that through the partnership, its PowerBuoy and WAM-V maritime platforms will be integrated with Red Cat’s Teal 2 Drones with the goal of providing real-time and actionable intelligence regarding maritime threats.

It said that Red Cat’s Teal 2 drones, known for their night vision capabilities and modular design, will complement its platforms by offering air support to extend the operational reach of maritime surveillance and reconnaissance missions.

It is hoped the integrated will revolutionize situational awareness and operational safety for reconnaissance and defense forces, OPT said.

The integration also supports the US Pentagon’s Replicator Initiative, which focuses on drone and warming capabilities across multiple domains, it added.

"Our collaboration with Red Cat aligns perfectly with our mission to advance maritime autonomy for defense and security missions among other applications,” OPT chief commercial officer Matt Burdyny said in a statement.

“By combining our sustainable, ocean-powered solutions with Red Cat’s advanced drone technology, we are setting a new standard for naval and border protection operations, ensuring increased mission endurance and range.”

OPT’s PowerBuoy system, an uninterrupted power supply using wave energy, and WAM-V, an autonomous surface vehicle, are designed to operate in a range of ocean depths and conditions, providing flexible solutions to support maritime operations.
