Bitcoin's wild ride & Ripple's big move: What's next? - Crypto Roundup

Proactive journalist Billy Farrington discusses the recent performance of Bitcoin, highlighting its volatile week influenced by macroeconomic factors in the US.

The manufacturing and employment sectors showed hotter-than-expected data, initially boosting markets, including Bitcoin. However, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's indication that anticipated interest rate cuts might not occur due to this data caused Bitcoin to drop by 7% on Tuesday. Although some recovery was seen, Bitcoin looked set to end the week about 4% lower, trading at $66,840, below the $74,000 all-time high.

Farrington noted the unexpected resilience in Bitcoin ETF cash inflows, with significant amounts recorded in recent days, yet this did not lead to as strong a market bounce as anticipated, possibly due to inflationary fears.

Farrington then compared Bitcoin's performance with Ethereum, observing that Bitcoin has outperformed Ethereum, which is down 12% month-to-month against Bitcoin. This trend may indicate a risk-off sentiment within crypto markets, with investors favouring Bitcoin over riskier altcoins. The lack of catalysts for Ethereum, compared to Bitcoin, also contributes to its underperformance. Nevertheless, recent SEC movements to consider Ethereum ETFs might change this dynamic.

Lastly, Farrington covered Ripple Labs' surprising announcement of entering the stablecoin market with its own dollar-pegged cryptocurrency. Given Tether's dominance in the stablecoin market, it raises questions about what Ripple Labs aims to achieve. Despite controversies surrounding stablecoins, particularly related to transparency and regulation, Ripple Labs' entry could introduce new dynamics into the market.
