Cardiol Therapeutics (TSX:CRDL, NASDAQ:CRDL) said it had made significant strides in 2023 and early 2024 to advance its offerings of novel therapeutic solutions to patients with underserved heart diseases.
In an operational update looking at the 2023 calendar year, CEO David Elsley highlighted some of the main milestones the company achieved.
The company “made important progress in 2023 and early 2024 as we pursued our primary objective of providing new therapeutic options to patients with poorly served heart diseases," Elsley said in a statement.
In 2023, Cardiol Therapeutics (TSX:CRDL, NASDAQ:CRDL) initiated patient recruitment for its MAvERIC-Pilot study on recurrent pericarditis, which has now successfully completed full enrollment, with topline results expected in 2Q 2024.
The achievement coincided with the receipt of US FDA Orphan Drug Designation for CardiolRx in pericarditis, expanding its market potential.
Meanwhile, the global ARCHER trial evaluating CardiolRx in acute myocarditis patients exceeded 50% enrollment and is expected to finish ahead of schedule by 3Q 2024. CardiolRx is eligible for orphan drug designations in both the US and EU for acute myocarditis.
Additionally, pre-clinical results presented in cardiology-focused scientific meetings throughout 2023 provided further insight into Cardiol's drug candidates. With operations funded until 2026, Cardiol anticipates significant milestones in its programs in 2024, aiming to deliver new therapeutic options for heart diseases.
“Cardiol is well positioned to achieve significant milestones in the MAvERIC, ARCHER, and CRD-38 programs during 2024 that we believe will underpin business development initiatives aimed at accelerating our goal of delivering important new therapeutic options to people affected by underserved debilitating heart diseases,” the CEO added.
