ImmuPharma PLC (AIM:IMM) has embarked on a new strategy to substantially boost the patent lifespan and market value of its P140 technology platform and fortify its position in autoimmune diseases.
The company's lead asset is being developed to treat systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), with a phase III clinical trial about to begin.
Additionally, P140 is about to undergo a phase II/IIU adaptive study targeting chronic idiopathic demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), a poorly treated form of pain and muscle weakness.
The introduction of new patents under this strategic approach is expected to significantly extend the protection of the P140 platform, particularly for its application in SLE and CIDP treatments.
Furthermore, this patent expansion aims to bolster the platform's commercial potential, enhancing ImmuPharma's negotiating stance in its ongoing discussions with various potential partners.
Beyond the immediate focus on SLE and CIDP, the expanded patent portfolio will enable the exploration of P140's efficacy in other autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
"This is an important new initiative which will greatly improve the intellectual property protection for our P140 technology platform and extend its patent life significantly," said ImmuPharma CEO, Tim McCarthy.
"This in turn creates greater shareholder value and it is particularly pertinent as we progress discussions with a broad range of potential commercial partners on both the SLE and CIDP programmes."
