Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL, ETR:APC) will win the landmark antitrust case launched by the US government last week, a law professor believes.
“My guess is Apple will win,” Randy Picker, a University of Chicago law professor said on Wednesday.
Picker believes that even if Apple fails to win the case in the New Jersey federal court, where the lawsuit has been filed, it will likely succeed on appeals, potentially in the Supreme Court.
The professor's comments come a week after Attorney General Merrick Garland warned the iPhone maker: “The United States normally wins the cases that it brings.”
More than US$100 billion was wiped from the value of Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL, ETR:APC) last week after the US Justice Department filed a landmark lawsuit against the tech giant.
The suit, one of the most significant legal challenges Apple has faced, accuses it of monopolising the smartphone market and stifling competition, particularly through its control over the iPhone app store.
The government alleges Apple has engaged in illegal practices to disadvantage rivals and force consumers into its ecosystem, raising costs and hindering innovation.
The Justice Department is also suing Google in an antitrust lawsuit, with Amazon and Meta having been sued for similar reasons by the Federal Trade Commission.
