Kali Metals Ltd (ASX:KM1) has expanded lithium anomalies at the Spargoville and Widgiemooltha projects at Higginsville in Western Australia after new results from ongoing geochemical soil sampling revealed a larger footprint than first interpreted.
Sampling has extended the Flynn-Giles prospect within Spargoville a further 600 metres to the north-northeast while early results from the parallel Parker-Grubb anomaly have expanded that target by more than 2 kilometres to the northeast.
The company says these results show that Spargoville has a larger lithium-prospective area than originally anticipated, the insights from which will be incorporated into an upcoming reverse circulation (RC) drilling program.
X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) have confirmed spodumene in multiple areas around the Spargoville and Widgiemooltha projects.
Optimal location for pegmatites
“Our soil geochemical program continues to deliver results across the Spargoville Project with multiple trends of anomalies now spanning over a combined strike of 4 kilometres,” Kali Metals managing director Graeme Sloan said.
“The pegmatite system at the Spargoville Project exceeds our initial expectations, prompting us to expand the limits of our initial exploration RC drill program which we expect to commence in late April this year.
“Furthermore, the identification of multiple sites containing spodumene at Higginsville using the X-ray Diffraction and Scanning Electron Microscope techniques enhances the company’s confidence going into our maiden drill program and confirms that the targets are in the optimal location with respect to the pegmatite fractionation sequence.”
Kali collected eight samples from pegmatite thought to contain weathered spodumene across the Spargoville and Widgiemooltha projects.
The company says understanding the spodumene levels in the samples will offer better confidence for the exploration team in identifying weathered spodumene visually in the field.
The best sample with the highest spodumene content was 67.2% spodumene by weight percentage, correlating with the highest grade unearthed at Flynn-Giles Prospect at Spargoville of 5.05% lithium oxide, an exceptionally high-grade result.
