JD Wetherspoon PLC (LSE:JDW) said it will not follow the trend of pubs and restaurants closing earlier to save on overheads.
Earlier today, it was revealed that almost a third of publicans have reduced their trading hours to try and manage costs.
Some publicans said they are closing as early as 8pm, or not opening at all earlier in the week, to save on staff and utilities costs.
When asked by Proactive if the major UK pub chain intends to follow suit, a Wetherspoons spokesperson said: “Wetherspoon does not do this and has no intention of doing so.”
The popular chain of cheap and cheerful pubs reported robust interim revenues of £991 million last week, edging out analysts’ forecasts.
Jefferies analysts suggest that the group’s “low relative price positioning and well-located/well-invested premises will gain market share and benefit from trading down”.
