Ondine Biomedical inks deal with first NHS trust

Ondine Biomedical Inc (AIM:OBI, OTC:OBIMF) said its light-activated antimicrobial technology, Steriwave, will be adopted by an NHS trust, starting with Pontefract and Pinderfields hospitals.

This initiative, aimed at reducing surgical site infections (SSIs) among hip and knee surgery patients, marks Steriwave's first commercial adoption within the UK health service framework.

Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust's decision to integrate Steriwave as a standard-of-care solution follows an initial successful deployment at Pontefract Hospital, demonstrating the technology's effectiveness in combating pathogens without promoting antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Steriwave has shown the capability to kill viruses, bacteria, and fungi within minutes, offering a promising approach to infection prevention in surgical settings. This adoption signifies a proactive step by the NHS to enhance patient safety and address the growing concern of AMR.

Ondine chief executive, Carolyn Cross, said: "We are delighted to see the first two NHS hospitals adopt Steriwave, particularly as NHS is seen around the world as a leader in antibiotic stewardship in response to the growing threat of AMR (antimicrobial resistance).

"This is not only a significant milestone for Ondine, but Mid Yorks's accelerated decision to adopt suggests that Steriwave has been well received by patients, surgeons, and nurses."
