Kingspan Group PLC has been charged by European competition authorities for providing misleading information during a proposed acquisition in 2021.
The European Commission said it had sent a statement of objections about the Irish insulation specialist's deal to buy Slovenian rival Trimo.
"The Commission takes the preliminary view that Kingspan intentionally, or negligently, provided incorrect, incomplete and misleading information with respect to basic facts related to Kingspan's internal organisation," the EU antitrust watchdog said.
Kingspan, which delisted from London last year, provided incorrect and incomplete information on the scope of products and the geographic market, the closeness of competition between Kingspan, Trimo and competitors, among other issues.
Kingspan told Reuters the EU antitrust application for the Trimo deal "was unusual and uniquely onerous given both the level of information sought and the fact that the process occurred during COVID".
The company said it does not agree with the Commission's preliminary conclusions.
