Flutter and Entain little moved by Super Bowl success for US bookies

Neither of the two big UK bookmakers - Flutter Entertainment PLC (LSE:FLTR) and Entain PLC (LSE:ENT) - seemed to have been swayed by the latest positive data emanating from the US covering February.

The read-out is important on two counts. First, both gaming companies have a significant presence in the States. In the case of Flutter, it owns FanDuel, the American sportsbook.

The second reason for the importance of the February US betting data is that covers the Super Bowl weekend - the pre-eminent betting event on the North American continent.

So, the latest print courtesy of Jefferies, the investment bank, comes from six states. It reports that the amount 'handled' was up 22% year-on-year, with gross gaming revenue (GGR) up 21% with margins 0.1 percentage points weaker.

Maryland is the sole state to have reported its net gaming margin that was up 24% on the comparable period last year.

At 2.19 pm, Entain's shares were flat at 771p, while Flutter was off 2.3% at 16,720p.
