Technology Minerals' Recyclus wins recycling contract with e-scooter operator

Technology Minerals PLC's (LSE:TM1)' Recyclus battery recycling business has won a contract to process and recycle waste lithium-ion batteries from Beryl's e-bike and e-scooter schemes in various cities.

Batteries that have reached the end of their operating life at Beryl's e-bikes in Brighton, Leeds and Manchester, e-scooters in Birmingham and the Isle of Wight and e-cargo bikes in Hackney and Westminster will be sent to the Recyclus plant in Wolverhampton.

Commissioned in November, the plant is the first and only industrial-scale Li-ion battery recycling plant in the UK, said Technology Minerals, which owns 48.35% of Recyclus.

Recyclus will receive gate fees for receiving the Li-ion batteries, as well as any sales of the 'black mass' and other recoverable materials produced from the recycling process.

The Brighton, Leeds and other schemes are among 19 shared transport schemes that Beryl operates with local authorities, with roughly 4.8 million journeys completed so far.

"With the e-bike market continuing to grow year on year, there is a growing demand for the safe disposal and recycling of Li-ion batteries," said Robin Brundle, chairman of Technology Minerals and a director of Recyclus.

"This agreement with Beryl is a testament to the strength of our solution as the first industrial scale, lithium-ion battery waste recycler in the UK."

Beryl's sustainability manager Sophie Noakes hailed Recyclus's "safe and effective solution for the disposal of end-of-life e-bike and e-scooter batteries".
