Niel Young has placed his music catalogue back on Spotify two years after he began boycotting the streaming service in protest of podcaster Joe Rogan.
Young had initially removed the songs in early 2022, arguing that Rogan’s podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, was spreading misinformation about vaccines.
“They can have Rogan or Young. Not both,” Young wrote in an open letter at the time.
This followed an episode of Rogan’s podcast in April 2021 in which he discouraged 21-year-olds from being vaccinated.
Rogan later argued he was not a respected source of information, with Young having slated the podcast host’s comments for potentially leading to deaths.
According to Young, his return to Spotify comes after Rogan’s period of exclusivity with the streaming service ended, meaning the podcast has also moved to the likes of Apple and Amazon.
“I cannot just leave Apple and Amazon, like I did Spotify, because my music would have very little streaming outlet to music lovers at all, so I have returned to Spotify,” he said on Tuesday.
