Sovereign Metals Ltd (ASX:SVM, OTC:SVMLF, AIM:SVML) has made four new appointments and promotions to its Malawi team across key legal, permitting, and technical functions, strengthening the company’s in-country capabilities.
SVM appointed Maxwell Kazako as acting in-country manager following the promotion of Frank Eagar to managing director, Natasha Namisengo as general legal counsel, Pilirani Bangula has been appointed legal counsel – compliance, and the company promoted Tupoche Kayange to laboratory manager.
Highly qualified team
The fresh appointments bring a high level of experience and expertise to the roles.
Kazako has a strong background in HR, general administration and importantly, government relations. He brings 18 years’ experience to the role, having worked across Malawian commerce and industry, including for First Merchant Bank and Malawian Airlines.
Namisengo is a qualified lawyer admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Malawi. She holds an MBA and has prior experience acting as legal counsel and in company secretary roles in Malawi.
Bangula is also a qualified lawyer with 12 years’ experience as a legal practitioner, including five years specifically as in-house legal counsel. He has wide-ranging experience in compliance, project oversight and risk management, contract negotiation, and policy drafting.
Kayange was promoted in line with SVM’s employee training and development program, having been instrumental in developing and managing the company’s laboratory facility in Lilongwe, Malawi.

Recently, she led the facility’s expansion and commissioning of new equipment to support bulk sample programs that are currently underway.
These appointments and promotions align with Sovereign’s initial targets, ensuring equal opportunity and fairness in employing a diverse workforce and Malawian nationals where possible.
SVM employs over 80 individuals in Malawi, with at least 30% of the staff being women.
