Scot Mort, Polar Cap among trusts enjoying Nvidia's bumper gains

Polar Capital Technology Trust PLC (LSE:PCT) hit a new all time high and other investment trusts including Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LSE:SMT) and Manchester & London Investment Trust plc (LSE:MNL) enjoyed strong gains on Thursday after Nvidia's blowout results overnight.

The pair are two of the 13 London-listed investment trusts that have large holdings in the US semiconductor giant, which smashed expectations with its latest quarterlies thanks to more demand from artificial intelligence-related business.

Manchester & London has the highest weighting in its portfolio among the baker's dozen, at 22%, which helped lift its shares 4.3%.

Martin Currie Global Portfolio Trust, PCT and Allianz Technology Trust PLC (LSE:ATT) have 9.5%, 8.4% and 7.1% weightings, according to research from the Association of Investment Companies using Morningstar data. Their shares were up between 3% and 4%.

Stonking gains for Nvidia and other big tech have led PCT to an all-time high of £29 today, ATT to a two-year high, M&L to a three-year high and SMT, the largest of the 13, to not far off a year's high.

All but two of these trusts' shares are trading on a discount to net asset value as of yesterday's closing price, with Manchester & London's one of the highest at 15%.

This is a similar discount to that seen at Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust, which has £13.8 billion of assets and a 5.1% weighting to Nvidia, which would make its stake worth over £700 million.

The largest discount was at Canadian General Investments at 39%. Its stake in Nvidia is a 6.7% weighting in its portfolio.
