Bens Creek appoints ex-Peabody executive as new CEO

Bens Creek Group has appointed a veteran of US coal miner Peabody Energy as its new chief executive.

An accountant, Chris Walker worked at Peabody for fourteen years including stints as head of strategy and more recently leading the international sales and trading organisation while based in Australia.

Before joining Bens Creek, Walker was the chief financial officer and chief restructuring officer for Allegiance Coal's U.S. assets

Initially, he will be the CEO of Ben Creek’s coal operation in West Virginia but will become group chief executive when Adam Wilson stands down.

Following this, Wilson will remain an executive director for a time to be agreed upon and will also be an employee at the BC Operations until 31 October 2024.

Wilson commented: "It has been my absolute pleasure to be involved in Bens Creek right from the very start.

"Chris has all the relevant experience to establish Bens Creek as a fully integrated HvB met coal producer to both the domestic and international markets."
