Jeff Bezos has sold more Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) shares, trousering more than US$8 billion in the past week and a half.
Bezos sold off more than 14 million shares in his company between last week and Tuesday, securities filings show, worth around US$2.4 billion (£1.9 billion).
This took the total sold off by Bezos over the past nine trading days to around 50 million, with a value of around $8.5 billion.
Bezos had said before that he intended to sell the stock through a plan developed in November and unveiled in a filing earlier this month, which said he could sell up to 50 million shares in Amazon by late January 2025, after he avoided any sales since May 2021.
Such accelerated sales of the stock have come after Bezos moved from Seattle to Miami last year, which he said was to be closer to family and his Blue Origin space operations.
Given Florida does not have state taxes on capital gains, whereas Washington requires 7% to be paid on earnings above US$250,000, Bezos is expected to have avoided paying nearly US$600 million in tax on his recently sold shares.
