Nano One adds four new lithium battery patents in Asia

Clean technology firm Nano One Materials Corp (TSX:NANO, OTC:NNOMF), which is known for its patented lithium-ion battery cathode manufacturing process, has announced the addition of four new patents to its Asian portfolio.

This expansion brings the company's total to 40 patents, with over 55 others pending globally.

Stephen Campbell, Nano One's chief technology officer, said the new patents will add value “not only for our shareholders but also for our trusted partners, stakeholders and future licensees”.

“Continuous innovation is critical to our strategy and these latest patent issuances showcase the quality and breadth of our technology offering, specifically in Asia where we are nurturing many strategic interests,” he added.

The first patent, issued in Japan, focuses on the development of lithium metal oxide cathodes from elemental metal using Nano One's proprietary process. This innovation is poised to reduce costs, simplify production processes, and lower greenhouse gas emissions within the battery supply chain. Another patent, issued in Taiwan, highlights improvements enabled by Nano One's One-Pot process, leading to a streamlined electrolyte composition in batteries. This advancement could potentially decrease the need for additives and extend battery lifespan.

Additionally, Nano One has obtained patents in China and Korea, which center around the simultaneous formation of a protective coating and cathode material in a single processing step. This technique holds particular promise for manganese-rich high-energy spinels, offering enhanced efficiency and performance in battery applications.

Dan Blondal, chief executive and founder of Nano One, commented: “Innovation is an imperative for the energy transition and for a just, secure and equitable future. It will not be good enough to simply copy and paste what has worked up until now - Nano One is committed to changing how the world makes cathode materials because we need solutions that eliminate the wastefulness and inefficiencies that are impeding the path to net zero.

“It is this dedication to the challenge, that drives innovation, fuels our piloting and galvanizes our people with partners, shareholders, and government stakeholders to execute on our plans and fulfill our ambitions."
