Microsoft is set to open up four Xbox-exclusive games to rival platforms, allowing access for the likes of Nintendo and PlayStation users.
Though the titles in question are yet to be confirmed, the move would come as part of a wider strategy shift by Microsoft to grow its games outside of the Xbox market.
“We’ve made the decision that we’re going to take four games to the other consoles,” Microsoft Gaming boss Phil Spencer said on a podcast on Thursday.
“I do have a fundamental belief that over the next five or ten years exclusive games, games that are exclusive to one piece of hardware, are going to be a smaller and smaller part of the game industry.”
According to sources cited by The Verge, ‘Hi-Fi Rush’ and ‘Pentiment’ could be the first two Xbox titles rolled out for other platforms, followed by ‘Sea of Thieves’ and ‘Grounded’.
Spencer added larger franchises such as ‘Indiana Jones’ and ‘Starfield’ were not planned for launch elsewhere yet, with Microsoft “learning from the experience” of the first four releases.
“You really want to respond to what customers want and what our players and creators are looking for,” Spencer said.
