Graphene Manufacturing Group Ltd (TSX-V:GMG, OTC:GMGMF) revealed the battery it is developing has a lower increase in temperature when discharging and charging compared to leading batteries.
The Graphene Aluminium-Ion Battery technology (G+AI Battery), which is a collaborative effort with the University of Queensland, was found to rise to 29 degrees Celsius when discharging.
In comparison, a world-leading brand can exceed 60 degrees Celsius.

This discovery hints at the potential to forego conventional thermal management systems in battery applications, promising cost reductions and efficiency gains for electric vehicles and energy storage solutions.
“GMG's Graphene Aluminium-Ion Battery may not need a thermal management system when used in an electric vehicle battery pack or an energy storage system, which will lead to a simpler, more cost-effective and higher energy density battery pack,” said the company in a statement.
Without a thermal management system, an electric vehicle pack could reduce in weight by up to 16%, which could lead to more energy volumetrically and a greater range.
The findings also mean GMG could eliminate the risk of chemical fires, addressing a critical safety concern in current battery technologies.
GMG is actively working on optimising the battery for commercial applications, with the pilot plant phase expected to advance the technology's maturity significantly.
