FTSE opens higher, supported by softer inflation; Coca-Cola soars - Market Report

The FTSE 100 enjoyed gains this morning after UK inflation data came in better than expected. Prices rose by 4% in January, as per the ONS, which was in line with December’s inflation rate but below market expectations for a 4.2% jump.

Among those reporting were water firms United Utilities and Severn Trent, which both climbed after backing guidance for the year, despite an influx of storms in recent months.

Dunelm also offered up results, with these showing a 4.8% rise in interim pre-tax profit to £123 million, even as the retailer noted “more difficult” trading conditions.

And finally, Coca-Cola’s London-listed shares soared after the drinks firm hailed record profits for the year to December.
