First Phosphate Corp. (CSE:PHOS) has successfully completed a pilot project to produce battery-grade phosphoric acid, positioning the company as a significant player in the North American supply chain for lithium iron phosphate batteries.
The company said on Tuesday that a pilot project aimed at converting its high purity phosphate concentrate into battery-grade purified phosphoric acid (PPA) for the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery industry was successful.
According to a statement from First Phosphate, Prayon Technologies SA had successfully executed the transformation of First Phosphate's phosphate concentrate into high-quality merchant grade phosphoric acid (MGA) on September 6, 2023.
Following this milestone, Prayon completed the subsequent stage of converting the MGA into PPA, meeting the stringent specifications required for food-grade and battery-grade applications.
"Our full transformation process from Quebec igneous phosphate rock to PPA for LFP batteries is now complete,” First Phosphate CEO John Passalacqua told shareholders. “We can now engage our partners to begin the pilot process of producing LFP cathode active material and LFP battery cells from a fully North American source of battery-grade PPA."
First Phosphate is a mineral development firm exclusively focused on the extraction and refinement of phosphate to produce cathode active material for the Lithium Iron Phosphate battery sector.
