Volkswagen Group (XETRA:VOW) has reaffirmed commitments to roll out several new electric vehicle (EV) models in America over the coming years despite wider concern that demand is slowing.
Volkswagen will stick with plans to roll out 25 EVs across its various brands by 2030, North America head Pablo Di Si said in an interview at the Chicago Auto Show on Thursday.
This was despite actions from the wider industry in response to what appears to be slowing growth in EV adoption recently.
“When I look at the data from January, the (EV) segment continues to grow,” Di Si explained, though he did acknowledge that the pace of this was diminishing.
Volkswagen is poised to adjust plans based on market changes as a result, he said.
General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) and Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) are among manufacturers to have slowed investments in their EV segments in recent months on fears of decelerating growth.
EV giant Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) led a heated price war from early last year in a bid to tempt buyers while chief executive Elon Musk has warned future sales could be muted regardless.
Volkswagen’s ID.Buzz electric minibus and the ID.7 sedan are set to launch in the US market later this year, with the carmaker also planning different-sized versions of its electric SUV.
