HemoGenyx Pharma soars on FDA trial consent

Shares in HemoGenyx Pharmaceuticals (LSE:HEMO) PLC soared over 17% on Friday morning on news the company’s trials of myeloid leukaemia treatment HEMO-CAR-T can continue.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave the go-ahead for the trial to continue after issues identified in June had been addressed, HemoGenyx said on Friday.

"We are extremely pleased with the FDA's decision,” chief executive Vladislav Sandler commented. “We now look forward to accelerating clinical development of HEMO-CAR-T and to offering patients a potentially life-saving treatment.”

The phase one trial will allow HemoGenyx to continue studying its prospective CAR-T therapy, which sees patients’ T-cells modified to kill cancer, with the treatment aimed at offering an alternative to chemotherapy.

Shares climbed 17.44% to 4.58p.
