Elon Musk is to fund a lawsuit brought by former The Mandalorian actress Gina Carano against The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) and Lucasfilm following her sacking in 2021 following a post on Instagram.
An outspoken Republican supporter, Carano wants US$75,000 in damages and for Lucasfilm to recast her in the series and other projects.
Carano lost her role as Cara Dune in the hit series after a post that likened the abuse she said Republicans now receive in the US to that of Jews in pre-Second World War Germany.
Musk made an open call on his platform X (formerly Twitter) for others to join the suit, stating: "Please let us know if you would like to join the lawsuit against Disney."
The Tesla chief executive has said he will financially support those facing discrimination for their posts on X.
Lawyers for Carano said her treatment was different to other stars of the show who had made political comments in a reference to posts made by The Mandalorian lead actor Pedro Pascal.
