Helium One joins Lloyds and Tesla among most popular UK investments

An AIM-listed explorer brushed shoulders with domestic favourites Lloyds and Rolls and global behemoths Tesla and Nvidia among the most popular shares among UK investors last month.

Helium One Global Ltd (AIM:HE1, OTCQB:HLOGF) was the top pick among DIY investors on the Interactive Investors platform in January, and in the top half of the table on the AJ Bell platform, two of the three largest investment supermarkets in the country.

It pipped Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LSE:LLOY) and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) into second and third.

Just before Christmas, Helium One brought in £6.1 million in an oversubscribed share offer to fund its upcoming drill programme at the Itumbula West-A prospect in Tanzania, began drilling at the start of January and by the last week of the month told investors that the well encountering elevated helium over twenty times the background levels “all the way to the basement”, with another update this week from chief executive Lorna Blaisse saying the well testing has "clearly confirmed" the presence of a producing helium province.

Investors who got in around the 0.25p level of the December fundraising or the 0.19p in subsequent days saw gains of over 1,000%.

Elsewhere, on the Freetrade platform, Tesla was the most bought in January, with Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft and Amazon also in the top 10, as well as Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD, ETR:AMD) another chip company offering access to the hot AI theme.
